Having arrived at the White Raven Shrine, the companions are greeted by Tiri, a Waterbender templar. She explains her father, Yahkto, is head of the Waterbenders who protect the temple grounds and the air nomads. Fah, the air nomad Abbess, leads the air nomads who venture forth on pilgrimages.
The group is introduced to Yahkto, and warned about the daofei following the companions. Yahkto and Fah take measures to protect the coming of Kaanu, the White Raven spirit, who comes every new moon for the Coalescence, a ritual wherein the air nomads of the Shrine share their memories with Kaanu.
With the new moon about a week away, the companions enjoy some downtime.
They first enjoy a bath at the spire's hot spring. Here, Enji asks Mayu about his marking from the banyan tree, and Enji reveals he shares a similar tattoo. He received it while in the crystal caverns below Ba Sing Se, where a hermetic Earthbender explained it would reveal to him the location of a spiritual realm where he could regain his lost family. Enji believes the White Raven Shrine is a step in that direction, and is interested in the Coalescence.
Taqqiq trains in some waterbending with Tiri, under the watchful eye of Yahkto. Mayu and Kensaya work together and cook a meal for everyone. Fah explains that the air nomads of the shrine venture out into the world and return to share their experiences with Kaanu. Long ago, Kaanu was a trite spirit, but through the symbiosis with the air nomads, came to understand human emotions and experiences. About two hundred years prior, Waterbenders from the Northern tribe came and began protecting the nomads and their site. And thus the circle between the human inhabitants and Kaanu the White Raven was born.
Mayu and Kensaya manage to protect Chona from the ire of Kolek, a Waterbender brute who believes Chona's presence endangers the Shrine. Taqqiq and Mayu manage to uncover more about the history of the Shrine and the White Raven, and Po met Sonam, a returning Air Nomad, while helping Fah tend to the air bison.
Eventually, the night of the Coalescence came, and the companions watched as Kaanu arrived to the 'Nest,' the tallest structure on the island. One by one, air nomads bowed in deference and Kaanu shared through their memories the human experience. Suddenly, a templar guard burst in and said an Earthbender was attacking at the gates -- Wu Xan had followed the party's trail!
Taqqiq left to deal with Wu Xan, and along the way was stopped by Kolek and Chona fighting. But Tiri helped Taqqiq trip up Kolek, and Taqqiq and Chona continued on to quell the Earthbender bandit.
Menawhile, during the Coalescence, Enji approached Kaanu and tried to share in the experience. In anger, he attacked the White Raven with a blade from his staff. Mayu, Po, and Kensaya were shocked, and engaged him and tried to get him to explain. He said that he felt he was supposed to join in Kaanu's experience, that his path led him to the White Raven Shrine to relive or join in the memory of his lost family, but it did not appear to be the case. While Fah and Yahkto attended to the wounded Raven spirit, the companions cornered Enji. But Sonam the air nomad appeared, and Enji left with Sonam, mentioning he should return to Ba Sing Se to better understand what was meant by the hermit's words.
Taqqiq and Chona, having mentioned to quell Wu Xan, returned with Tiri to the Nest to find the wounded Raven spirit and the gang aplomb at Enji's betrayal and exit.
