After witnessing Enji and Sonam's departure, the group turns to Faa and Yahkto and dealing with the wounded White Raven Kaanu. Yahkto says he has healed the spirit enough for survival, and Taqqiq offers to share his memories with the spirit.
They then turn to dealing Kolek and Wu Xan. Kolek is admonished by the Water Tribe, and Wu Xan is held prisoner in the deeper quarters of the shrine. Faa admonishes the group for not being aware of Enji's sinister motives, but in turn is rebuked for Sonam's wild ways against the temple.
Faa agrees to aid the group in going to Ba Sing Se to pursue Enji and discover more about his motives, if they can bring Sonam back to the temple to face Faa's judgement. They agree, and she provides an air bison to bring them to the city.
Before leaving, Kensaya interrogates Wu Xan in the hopes of learning more from him. He asks Wu Xan what his endgame is, but Wu Xan says he doesn't pry into Enji's business -- the monk was just picking up the pieces of various shattered remnants in the Earth Kingdom and trying to unite them. Kensaya presses him about Allaya as well, but Wu Xan doesn't know where she is. Despite their joining by Enji's 'family,' they keep to themselves.
In the city, the group splits up. They have two days before the air nomad must return back to the White Raven shrine, so they split up in the city. Kensaya begins by hitting the establishments of the daofei and criminal elements. He learns that a group called the Fanged Mercenaries pretty much rule the Lower Ring, led by Lei Fang.
Mayu looks among the military posts and soldier-friends he knows, learning of Lei Fang's involvement in the lower rings. He also learns that a Waterbender named Setua the Seal-Snake runs as a information broker through the various networks of daofei and other groups.
Taqqiq and Chona investigate the remnants of Long's study/shop, which has burned down. They ask a neighbor, who remembered seeing a suspicious stranger in the area the night the place was burned down, but the description was unknown to Chona. They also learnt he Paper Lantern Gang have been trying to expand their influence within the Middle Ring.
Po, wanting to avoid drawing attention to himself or alerting his parents, disguises himself and asks around about Sonam. He learns that folk in the middle ring might know more around the university, and that the Paper Lantern Gang are trying to regain power.
As the first day draws to a close, the gang begins to settle down. Kensaya continues to operate among the gamblers and thieves, drawing the ire of Fanged Mercenaries but shaking them off. Mayu heads to one of the soldier taverns/inn. Taqqiq and Chona spend the night at the Moon Peach Inn, which is a believed meet-up spot for the Paper Lantern gang. And Po continues to lie lo among the commoners in the middle ring....
