Mayu, having been transported into the Spirit World with the monk Enji, finds himself alone in an azure-washed landscape. He tries to use the stars to navigate, but the pair remain lost, hunted by lion-dog Shi Shi spirits. Avoiding any confrontation with spirits, they descend into a fog-covered valley...
Meanwhile, Po and Taqqiq question Amu, the astrologer, about their comrades' disappearance. Amu senses that the pair are linked, and there could be a connection between them and the spirit world. He says based on his rudimentary notes before the duo vanished that he might be able to track their whereabouts or exit. The group decides to head down to the docks, avoiding the city watch at "mayor" Shutao's beck-and-call.
Kensaya, having set off a distraction of fireworks, charges with Yan Lin's constables into the nest of Punctured Boar daofei, led by his adversary, Allaya. The two begin a (literally) heated battle and exchange blows while Yan Lin and his men focus on the minor bandit remnants within the compound.
Down at the docks, the group waits while Amu tries to calculate from his various star maps and understandings of the Spirit World. Taqqiq questions Amu's life in such a run-down hovel, ruled by greedy men like Shutao. Amu replies he was drawn by Avatar Kyoshi's connection (due to her parents settling here) but he'd like to travel the world and learn more. As he shows Taqqiq and Po the fruits of his labors, the group begins to question the nature of the tattoos. Amu explains they do show the way to some realm of 'lost souls,' as Enji was hoping to visit, but it could be incomplete. Could it be there's a third bearer out there with a missing piece of the map? They also question if the tattoos (and their glowing) are a beacon for something else.
Mayu, now trapped in the valley with the Fog of Lost Souls, becomes separated from Enji. He calls out but there is no response. He eventually hears a voice -- a girl's -- and she warns him not to become trapped in the fog or he'll lose himself. She says her name is Leyri Leyni and she shows him a way out of the valley. They see Enji, trapped on an opposite side of the valley, and begin to make their way toward him.
Kensaya, amidst his battle with Allaya, attempts to show he's grown more powerful and frighten her, but she simply laughs it off that he'll never be like his deceased master. Kensaya tries to back away but she continues the fight, and eventually Kensaya gets pushed to a forceful response, (literally) exploding in fiery rage into both Allaya and Yan Lin's forces. Allaya escapes but Kensaya manages to pacify the Punctured Boar combatants.
In the Spirit World, Leyni questions Mayu about his journey. She mentions she, too, is from the Foggy Swamp, although she only visits the Spirit World occasionally upon dreaming. She's not too familiar with some of the heavier questions Mayu asks her, nor does she understand the tattoo. While she's talking and they're on their way to meet Enji, Mayu gets pulled into a bright flash of light and finds himself near the docks, by his waiting friends and Amu.
The trio and the astrologer return to Amu's study. On the way they encounter Kensaya and Yan Lin, who are celebrating their phyrric victory over the Punctured Boar daofei. Mayu explains that Enji is likely still in the Spirit World, and tells of his meeting with Leyni. With Amu's maps and assistance, they try to triangulate where the maps could lead, settling on a place within the Si Wong Desert. They begin to formulate another journey, perhaps by boat, into the mainland. Taqqiq asks Amu if the astrologer would want to join them, and Amu accepts that this might be his opportunity to further his horizons.
