Episode 6: Movin' on Up

Shizaku returns to Neila's camp with the Fire Nation soldiers from the caravan. Neila and Bhaga question why they brought enemy soldiers back, as they want the existence of the fledgling camp to remain a secret until they can properly defend themselves. Shizaku insists they can provide some useful information if interrogated, and helps Bhaga continue to reinforce the camp's defenses.

Meanwhile, back at Pohuai Depot, Toji attempts to offer his services to the administrator Zukan, and visiting Captain Okuru, one of General Yama's three henchmen. Okuru insists he is nit in need of Toji's services and Toji backs down, afraid of the weaponsmaster deemed 'Yama's Executioner.' He returns to the others, and Dharma comes with one (1) messenger hawk. The group loads up supplies and exits, again invoking Saoku's name on egress.

The group passes by a Fire Nation patrol and hear that Captain Shan is setting up his base around the checkpoint to the east, expanding around that.

Back at Neila's camp, they distribute the goods and resources and discuss next plans. Moshi is worried about the spirit that has been wakened in the camp mountain. Since Jyoti is unsure of what might be the cause (and says again there might be helpful resources in the reliquary left at Yu Dao), Moshi wishes to send the messenger hawk first to Misty Library, his base whence they can get information and possible a second hawk.

The group also discusses getting more fighters and spreading misinformation about the gang's whereabouts in an effort to throw off Shan's advance. Dharma suggests he can use this opportunity to sneak back to Yu Dao and retrieve the reliquary with Jyoti. They might also recruit Jang Tae.

Toji takes up a lead position as inventory/supply and logistics manager, helping streamline the camp's growth and distribution of resources.

Shizaku and Moshi continue to help build up the main structure of the camp, even using Earthbending to help build higher walls and camouflage the camp from a distance.

On the road, Dharma learns more of Shan's set-up and infiltrates the camp to tell the captain to commit more forces in the wrong direction.  In Yu Dao, as Jyoti retrieves his Air Nomad artifacts, Dharma negotiates with Jang Tae returning back to the resistance and fighting. Jang Tae agrees, on the condition that once the group has some more fighters they return to Yu Dao and face the Fire Nation there. They return back to the camp.

Moshi hears back from the Misty Library, who agree they can send another monk west, along with a second hawk. They explain that the nearby city of Taku is under seige and has limited resources to spare.Toji and Dharma think they can go to Taku and help either fight or bring back refugees, etc, while the other stay in camp awaiting Moshi's monk-brother and resources. With a second hawk, Shizaku begins work on his first marvel, a faster land-speed vehicle.

  • Captain Shan has stationed himself around the western checkpoint south of Yu Dao, still looking for the prisoners and reliquary.
  • The camp is officially named Shimoni Dhato.
  • The camp has two (2) messenger hawks - K.K and Bumju.
  • Jang Tae is recruited to the camp as a fighter.

Episode 5: I am like a Bird 🎶

The group arrives around Mount Makapu, where Neila, an Earth Kingdom refugee, has gathered the start of a resistance movement against the Fire Nation. The Water Benders are eager to help and the companions begin to assess the meager camp, which doesn't seem like much to Toji.

Shizaku begins by assessing the camp structure and defenses, looking to see how he can ply the resources of Fire Iron Technology to help. Joji informs him that they would need a messenger hawk to communicate with Nue and the company back in the FN archipelago. Shizaku assists Bhaga, an Earth Kingdom soldier and (until the gang's arrival) the only Earthbender currently, and they prepare and move some defenses. Shizaku also notes the camp is starting to be taxed by their work and suggests a feast.

Dharma and Jyoti look over the camp and its inhabitants, and Jyoti tries to guide Dharma to understand the compassion Air Nomads harbor for all the nations. They assist with some of the wounded and fatigued camp members, and Dharma gains a newfound appreciation for his lots heritage.

Moshi helps Dhrama earthbend some new tunnels for the camp, and they discuss building the skills and training of those they've collected. While excavating part of the mountain terrain, Jyoti suddenly feels a cold and unsettling chill in the air. Fearing he'd tapped into some 'lost spirits' of the region, he seeks Jyoti's guidance. Jyoti, however, says he's not very well-versed in specific elements of the Spirit World but claims there was some writings in the reliquary they hid outside of Yu Dao back west.

Dharma, meanwhile, finds Toji writing an account of their journey and chronicling the groups' journey and plans. Toji worries about the dour state of the camp, as well as Captain Shan's hunt for the reliquary and what it means for the group.

That night, at the celebratory feast Shizaku Joji prepares, the group celebrates the efforts of the camp. Toji, however, is quick to move into battle-mode, and unfurls his map of the region. The companions discuss their current situation (defending against Captain Shan from the west) and the contents of the Air Nomad reliquary General Yama has sent his men to acquire. They also discuss needing more supplies for the camp to defend it and build its resources. Bhaga and Neila mention that Pohuai Depot, which was once an Earth Kingdom fort now used as a communications depot by the Fire Nation, could provide supplies and the messenger hawk Shizaku could use to begin working on his projects.

The group begins a plan to get into Pohuai, wherewith they ambush a returning supply haul and then return to the depot. Shizaku takes Kou back to Neila's camp along with the Fire Nation unit guarding the supply wagon. The others, along with Tokala the waterbender, go to Pohuai to load up the cart with food, camp gear, and other goods.

While entering, Toji hears that Captain Okuru is now visiting and in the main quarters. While the others load up, Toji heads to see Okuru. Dharma, meanwhile, heads to the communication tower to procure a hawk for Joji Shizaku....

  • Pohuai Depot is an old fort now controlled by the Fire Nation
  • Captain Okuru is one of the three captains under General Yama. A non-bender, he has had to show excellent skill with spear and sword to move up the ranks.
  • There is an eerie darkness within the mountain range, as felt by Moshi when he was helping Bhaga excavate.

Episode 4.5: Freeing the Prisoners

Shizaku explains to Commander Saoku that the companions are not very strong, and that they are likely camping outside the town. He is able to convince Saoku to send a unit of his soldiers to look for them, as they're likely trying to connect with the Earthbender refugees.

Meanwhile, the others find a small cave in the mountains where the rebels are hiding -- the Earthbender Ma Leng is just an eleven-year old girl, and her brother, Ma Ran, is only 15. They're a bit precocious and wary of the companions, but are later convinced the group can help them fend off Saoku and his forces.

The group plans quickly to return and free the waterbenders. Toji does so by quickly smashing through their cages, while the rest of the group fends off the Fire Nation soldiers. Saoku grabs Ma Ran and threatens to end him if the group doesn't stand down, but is stopped by Jyoti and Dharma (secretly) airbending and unbalancing him, then Moshi capturing him.

The group parleys with Saoku and convince him to leave, having bested his troops. They help Ma Leng and Ma Ran rebuild the village, and Jyoti suggests bringing them with them to Neila's camp for protection, but Ma Leng is convinced to stay. The waterbenders, Tokala and Noya, however, do come with the companions. The group then heads east towards the resistance camp.

  • Saoku is sent westward defeated, to rejoin Captain Shan.
  • Ma Ran and Ma Leng stay in their village
  • Tokala and Noya come with the group to Neila's camp.
