Episode 11: Crossroads

While Taqqiq continues to train with Ilya, she stresses he has to move past his trauma to embrace the fluidity required of a waterbender...

Mayu is dressed down by General Hei Wan, who, although he can appreciate the mercenary's results, is fearful he's making friends in the wrong places. Nevertheless, he understands his commitment to the Earth Kingdom, and tasks him with a special mission....

Po is berated by his father, Lohi, who believes Po is not only choosing poor friends, but spitting in the face of all his parents had done to protect him from the warring bloodlines vying for the Earth Kingdom throne. Po digs in his heels, stating his loyalties lie with those who've stood by him. Po laments that his son has made a choice of which family he wants to follow....

At the Moon Peach Inn, Kensaya and Enji sit in awkard silence before finally trying to talk to one another. Kensaya presses the monk on why he attacked Kaa, the White Raven, and Enji stresses he didn't intend to kill the Spirit, but that his emotions got the better of him. Surely the young firebender understood that? Desperate times will call for desperate measures, and ultimately the goals of the too bandits are aligned...

Everyone comes together to visit Chona, now working in the library of Ba Sing Se University. She's upset about learning her father's identity. With Taqqiq's pressing, she agrees to live on the outskirts of the city by Lake Laogai with the former daofei, Goran.

Kensaya, Taqqiq and Chona go to visit Goran, who is wary they can protect him from Lei Fang or Dai Li. Kensaya is unable to assure him, but Taqqiq says he will broker a deal with Setua the Snake, the information broker.

Mayu, Po, and Enji, in the meantime, go to visit an astrologer who may understand more about the star-maps that have magically tattooed on Mayu and Enji's bodies. They go to see Xi Tong, a man who also worked alongside Long. Xi Long gives them two leads: a student of the Spirit World in Chameleon Bay named Amu, and a sandbender named Rakim, whose tribe possibly understands how the constellations are connected.

The group meets back at the Moon Peach Inn and discuss their options, deciding to head to Chameleon Bay. In preparation, Taqqiq, Mayu, and Enji visit Setua. They share with him the goings-on of Zato the Unyielding beneath the city, and Setua is quick to warn them of invoking the wrath of the Avatar. As Taqqiq attempts to curry Setua's favor, he is brought into the information broker's employ.

Po and Kensaya work to get supplies ready for the eastward journey, learning that Enji still has other daofei contacts throughout the Earth Kingdom.

....during his talk with Enji, Kensaya is warned not to let his allegiances weaken him. After all, Enji claims, no one understands the lonely life Kensaya now leads other than someone like Enji.

...while leaving his father's house, Po is jumped by an unknown Earthbender. The assailant claims he now knows Po is defenseless without his father's protection.

...Hei Wan reveals to Mayu a map of Spirit World points that seem to be linked to Enji's goals. One is the Banyan Tree near Mayu's home in the Foggy Swamp, one is the Library of Wan Shi Tong, a great Spirit, and the other is a point in the northern mountains of the continent. Hei Wan urges that Enji is not to be trusted, and s Mayu promise that the mercenary will do what he must to stop him, even if it costs him his friends.

...while training with Ilya, Taqqiq is wounded. Ilya shows him, however, that waterbending can be used to heal and nurture as well as destroy. She begins to teach him that water is not just hard ice and deluges, but a softness that can slowly erode any obstacle.

Episode 10: The Hermit and the Monk, Part II

As Taqqiq and Lei Fang's group descend below Ba Sing Se toward the Crystal Catacombs, the rest of the gang  makes their presence known. Avoiding a fight with the Fanged Mercenaries, they agree to team up, both looking for Zato the Unyielding and the monk, Enji.

While investigating some old ruins, Kensaya runs into an old man -- Zato! -- who baits him but the rest of the group is unsure. The group gets split up after Po's earthbending isn't strong enough to dig through the old tunnels beneath the great city.

Mayu and Po travel and see what appears to be another memorial vision, one of Enji meeting Zato for the first time. Meanwhile, Taqqiq and Lei Fang encounter Zato, who's camped out at an underground river. Zato admits he doesn't know where Enji is, but that the monk is likely trying to understand about his marked tattoos and how to interpret the map to his lost family.

Kensaya, alone, encounters Enji, and the two stand off before begrudgingly following one another. They eventually meet up with Mayu and Po and some of the Fanged Mercenaries. The Fanged Mercenaries want to take down Enji, but Po and Mayu are willing to understand more about what's going on. They fend off the Fanged Mercenaries, leaving them and looking for Taqqiq and Lei Fang.

Everyone meets up at Zato's camp, where Lei Fang pushes back against Enji using him to attack Long, the archaeologist, and Lei Fang reveals that Chona was his daughter and he's upset that he might've harmed her. Enji says he knew not of their relationship but that it doesn't matter. He questions why Zato didn't reveal to him that going to see Kaa at the White Raven Shrine was an incorrect path, but Zato didn't know Enji's intentions, nor his rage when the White Raven Shrine provided no results. Enji struck Kaa out of his own disappointment and anger, not out of Zato's reading of the strange tattoos.

Taqqiq steps in and, being a child of two nations, elicits a tenuous peace between Lei Fang's group and Enji.

Zato posits that Enji and Mayu's celestial maps are somehow a pair -- north and south, but he doesn't know specifically how to read them. There is discussion of traveling with Enji to better understand what their two destinies mean, and the gang returns upward to Ba Sing Se....
